Although the IL State Archives' web site maintains the online pre-1900 IL Marriage index - - the Archives does NOT have the actual marriage records. HOWEVER, they DO own several LDS films of marriage records from 22 counties NOT named below. For a listing of the county marriage records not shown below, click HERE and that listing will open in a new window.
The marriage records are county-based, and would either be
available through the appropriate county clerk's office (for varying fees...
some counties charge as much as $25 per record!) - OR from one of the IL
Regional Archives Depositories (IRAD) located at six geographically-separate
Illinois state universities.
I CAN GET THE FOLLOWING MARRIAGE RECORDS through the IRAD
at UIS:
(fee = $5.00 for first printed page; 50
cents for each additional page.

AS to the type of info on marriage records:
the INDEX is just that - - pretty much the same as the online IL pre-1900
marriage index (but often includes marriages that took place AFTER 1900, as you
can see in the above listing)
the LICENSE (often called the Certificate) is pretty - - but doesn't give
much information... (bride & groom, date of marriage, name & title of
the person who performed the marriage)
the RECORD - if after 1877 - gives a lot more info - (parents of the
bride & groom; birthplaces, ages, current residences & occupations of
bride & groom; name & title of person performing the marriage; and if
AFTER 1877, also gives the location of the marriage, the names of the witnesses,
and the number of marriages - including this one - for the bride & groom.)
the APPLICATION - after 1876 - gives much the same info as on the RECORD
- but also (often) asked for the birthplaces of the parents of the bride &
groom.
[NOTE - the RETURN - usually only available from appropriate county clerk's offices, gives much the same information as given on the APPLICATION.]
I can only search and print from the Index pages for Cook County. For the actual Cook County pre-1916 birth record/certificate, I highly recommend Cynthia - her website is www.chicagogenealogy.com
